Verizon disclosed a deal worth more than $1B linking Google data centers via dark fiber, plus a plan to retrofit offices into small AI-inference centers.

Verizon CEO Dan Schulman disclosed on the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call a deal worth more than $1 billion linking Google data centers via Verizon’s unused “dark fiber,” part of a new “AI Connect” business line, and said Verizon is retrofitting some central offices into small data centers for low-latency AI inference; Schulman said a small trial “sold out capability in 24 hours.”
