Snapchat stops recommending AI-made video

Archive item — written before sources were shown.

Spotlight will no longer surface fully AI-generated videos in recommendations, though creators can still use AI to edit or enhance their own content.

Snapchat adjusted its Spotlight recommendation system on July 31 to exclude fully AI-generated videos, an escalation of a stance it first took in April. Creators can still use AI tools to edit or enhance content they make themselves; only purely computer-generated video loses recommendation eligibility. Snapchat says the goal is keeping Spotlight’s recommendations centered on real people’s own creative work, joining LinkedIn, Meta, YouTube, and Substack in curbing low-quality AI-generated content, often called AI slop, in their recommendation systems.
