Netflix paid $587M for Affleck's AI startup

Netflix disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it paid approximately $587 million in cash for InterPositive, Ben Affleck’s AI startup, confirming an estimate that had circulated since the deal was first announced in March. Affleck founded and led InterPositive since 2022; he stays connected to Netflix as a senior advisor, and the acquisition brought over the company’s team along with its technology.

InterPositive’s tools let filmmakers build an AI model from a production’s own dailies, the raw footage shot each day, to assist post-production work such as audio mixing, relighting shots, and adding visual effects. Netflix says generative AI workflows have already touched roughly 300 of its titles, concentrated mostly in post-production rather than earlier stages like scripting or principal photography.

What it means for operators

The filing matters less for the price tag than for the confirmation of scale: 300 titles is a real production line, not a pilot program, and it’s a data point on how fast a major studio has been willing to route AI into a workflow once the tooling is good enough. It’s a reminder that AI-generated and AI-assisted images and video for business use has moved well past the novelty stage at the high end of media production.
