GCC’s steering committee adopted an AI contributions policy declining any “legally significant” contribution (roughly 15+ lines, per GNU Project guidelines) that includes or derives from LLM-generated content, over copyright concerns, while still permitting LLM-generated test cases at maintainer discretion and unrestricted LLM use for research, bug discovery, and patch review that isn’t itself submitted as a contribution.
