Bezos raises $12B for Project Prometheus

Project Prometheus, the AI startup Jeff Bezos co-leads with former Google X executive Vik Bajaj, emerged from stealth on June 11 with $12 billion in new funding at a $41 billion valuation. Combined with the roughly $6.2 billion it raised at its late-2025 founding, the company has pulled in more than $18 billion before showing a product. The backer list runs from JPMorgan and BlackRock through Goldman Sachs to DST Global and Arch Venture Partners, plus Bezos’s own money.

The pitch is an “artificial general engineer”: AI that automates the design, testing, and manufacturing of complex physical systems, with stated targets ranging from jet engines to drug compounds. Bezos, in his first CEO seat since leaving Amazon in 2021, says the goal is to make the engineering “dream-build loop” ten times faster or more.

Why this matters

Two things are worth separating. The signal: serious capital now believes the next AI margin lives in atoms, not chat, and tooling for people who design and build physical products will get aggressive investment. The caution: $18 billion raised against zero shipped product is a bet, not a result, and “artificial general engineer” is a slogan until benchmarks exist.

For operators, the near-term translation is that AI agents are spreading from code into CAD, simulation, and factory workflows. The skills transfer: the delegation habits in coding agents for non-developers are the same ones engineering tools will assume, and staying current in 30 minutes covers tracking a space that now moves on billion-dollar announcements.
